Gentlemen:

This refers to the Systematic Assessment of Licensee Performance (SALP) Board

Report for Wolf Creek Generating Station.

The SALP Board met on March 11, 1986,

to evaluate the performance of this facility for the period October 2, 1984, to

January 31, 1986.

The performance analyses and resulting evaluations are

documented in the enclosed SALP Board Report.

The performance of your facility was evaluated in the selected functional areas

identified in Section IV of the enclosed SALP Board Report.

Overall, we find that your performance of licensed activities generally is

,

'

acceptable and directed toward safe facility operation.

Particular strength was

noted in the areas of maintenance, surveillance, licensing activities and

quality, programs and administrative controls affecting quality.

An upward trend

in the area of fire protection was noted after several deficiencies were

discovered earlier in the appraisal period.

The construction phase was still in

progress during the early part of this appraisal period.

Since all construction

issues were adequately tesolved, this area will not be evaluated.

l

Unless you specifically request it, a management meeting will not be scheduled

i

for this reporting period.

Any request for a management meeting should be made,

in writing, within 10 days of receipt of this report.

l

Comments which you may submit are not subject to the clearance procedures of the

office of Management and Budget as required by the Paperwork Reduction Act of

1980, PL 96-511.

t

Should you have any questions concerning this letter, we will be glad to discuss

them with you.

Sincerely,

8604290357 860416:
