1. PURPOSE C

1.1 Objective The objective of this procedure is to provide instructions for the weekly surveillance of the fire pump diesel engine batteries. This procedure satisfies the technical requirements stated in Section 4.1.A.1.h.1(a) and (b) of the " Unit 1 Technical Requirements Manual," OPS Form 273-7.2," Fire Protection 'lbchnical Requirements." This procedure also satisfies the technical requirements stated in Section B.3.a.1) and 2) of the " Unit 3 'Ibchnical Requirements Manual," 3TRM-7.4. The Unit 2 'Ibchnical Requirements Manual does not include a specific requirement to perform this survelliance; however, the Unit 2 Shift Manager must be notified in the event of a failed surveillance. l 1.2 Discussion This procedure provides instructions for performing weekly battery surveillance. The surveillance data is measured and recorded on the p surveillance form. Demineralized water additions,if needed, are y perfortned after all data is recorded. 1.3 Applicability This procedure is applicable in all plant operating modes. This procedure applies to the two fire pump diesel engine batteries with the following localIDs: BATTERY-DFP-A: ""A' Diesel Fire Pump-Battery" [ 4 BATTERY-DFP-B: ""B' Diesel Fire Pump-Battery" 1.4 Frequency Weekly w [~ d SP 788 3 wffyr w[dyrsM:ySgdgy r Level of Use: General fQ fN( p% p% 2 of 7 [

4. INSTRUCrlONS C

NOTE - Measurements may be taken in any order as long as all specified parameters aio measured and recorded. 4.1 MEASURE battery terminal voltage, and RECORD value on Maint. Form 788.3-1. 4.2 E battery terminal voltage is less than 12 volts, NOTIFY the following individual <: . FLS Unit 1 Shift Manager Unit 2 Shift Manager Unit 3 Shift Manager 4.3 Ol3 SERVE electrolyte level of each cell. O 4.4 E cell electrolyte level is above the plates, RECORD level of cell as "N" (normal) on Maint. Form 788.3-1. 1 4.5 E cell electrolyte level is; a between /8 inch above the plates and the bottom of the cell fill neck, PERFORM the following: i 4.5.1 lE cell electrolyte level is at.QR below the plates, NOTIFY the following personnel: FLS Unit 1 Shift Manager Unit 2 Shift Manager Unit 3 Shift Manager 4.5.2. 4.5.3 MEASURE and ADD demineralized water until cell electrolyte f'. 1 i level is between /8 nch above the plates and the bottom of the cell fill neck. 4.5.4 RECORD amount of water added to cell in applicable row of "I120 (ml)" column on Maint. Form 788.3-1. 4.6 Visually INSPECT terminal connections and cell posts for dirt and corrosion. 4.7 IE terminal connections or cell posts show signs of dirt or corrosion, PERFORM the following in-service cleaning: 4.7.1 DON protective clothing and equipment. CAUTION 1. Terminals and cell connectors are lead-coated. Carr. nust be used not to remove lead coating during cleaning process. 2. 'Ibrminals must not be disconnected during during the following cleaning activity, p V 4.7.2 Using clean rags dampened with demineralized water or acutralizing solution, WIPE battery acid buildup and loose corrosion from battery casing and terminal connections. 4.7.3 IE neutralizing solution was used, WIPE components and surfaces with demineralized water. 4.7.4 Using clean, low-lint cloths, DRY battery and connections thoroughly. NOTE One recommended oxide inhibitor is NO-OX-ID ;rease. Heating

rease will aid in grease application. Recommendec method is to use a lot plate and heat gresse to cream-like consistency maintaining approximately 160 'F and to apply grease using soft brush.
