Docket No. 50-352 Attachment to Monthly Operating Report for May, 1986 Limerick Generating Station Unit 1 May 1 through May 31, 1986 I.
Narrative Summary of Operating Experiences The unit began the month at 100% power.
On May 2, the unit was manually shutdown for a six-week survaillance tecting program necessary to comply with NRC Technical Specifications.
Some maintenance and modification work is scheduled off critical path.
During the manual shutdown, reactor power gradually decreased until a manual scram was inserted at 301 power.
An unplanned challenge to the Reactor Protection System, resulting in a scram with the unit shutdown, occurred during a level transient when the reactor water level dropped below'the scram setpoint.
Reactor water level was immediately restored and the scram was reset.
The plant achieved hot shutdown at 0611 hours0.00707 days
0.17 hours
0.00101 weeks
2.324855e-4 months
on May 3 and the unit was placed in shutdown cooling on the same day.
c The outage work is centered on Locil Leak Rate Testing, Diesel Generator Modifications & Testing, Main Steam Relief Valve change outs, snubber testing and modifications to the Standby Gas Treatment. System, j
Major activities completed during May associated with the surveillance testing and maintenance outage consisted of the following:
all diesel surveillance testing and 4 KV i
, logic system functional testing, replacement of the Main I
Control Room chlorine detectors, flushing of the floor and equipment drain sumps throughout the plant, and preliminary modifications to the EVAC system to, provide the refueling floor with the Standby Gas Treatment System capability required for reactor refueling.
The Main Control Room chlorine detector replacement began on May 2.
The replacement of existing detectors with an Anacon model is an attempt to reduce the number of spurious chlorine isolations which have resulted from failure of the existing detectors.
