b Db July 2,1986 Docket No. 50-313 Mr. Gene Campbell Vice President, Nuclear Operations Arkansas Power and Light Company P. O. Box 551 Little Rock, Arkansas 72203

Dear Mr. Campbell:

We are continuing our review of your submittal of May 21, 1986, concerning a proposed amendment which addresses a new height of water required in condensate storage as a result of a new seismic and tornado protected condensate tank which you plan to have in service for the next cycle of operation for Arkansas Nuclear One, Unit 1.

We are interested in determining the adequacy of the design of the tank and foundation for seismic qualification and tornado protection. Therefore, we request the following as it relates to the seismic qualification and tornado protection of ths new tank and foundation:

1.

Design inputs such as loads, forces and assumptions.

2.

The methods of analysis of the foundation and tank for seismic qualification and tornado protection.

3.

A sumary of the results such as stresses at critical points.

We understand that we can expect the information in the latter part of July 1986.

The reporting and/or recordkeeping requirements of this letter affect fewer than ten respondents; therefore, OMB clearance is not required under P.L.96-511.

Sincerely,

". " LESM Ica m r
