Dear Mr.-Hukill:
SUBJECT:
FLUENCE PROJECTIONS PER 10 CFR 50.61 By letter dated January 23, 1986, you submitted information concerning tSe fast neutron fluence for the TMI-1 reactor vessel which included data for weld SA-1526. This information was required by 10 CFR 50.61.
Our review has identified a need for further clarifying information. Enclosed are three questions which tddress our concerns. The schedule for responding to this request for add tfotal information can be negotiated between your staff and the assigned NRC Project Manager, Mr. John Thoma (301-492-8018).

Enclosure TMI-1, REQUEST FOR ADP'TIONAL INFORMATION REGARDING FLUENCE PROJECTIONS FOR 10 CFR 50.61 1895 the fluence to reach the screening criteria is Onpage4-6ofBggn/cm. This is inconsistent (a) with the last lint of 1.
2 stated as 7.0x10 i
Table 4-4 and (b) our own estimate which is close to your es}gmate yhich shows the fluence to reach the screening criteria = 6.4 x 10 n/cm.
Please clarify.
2.
In BAW-1895 it is stated that future flux reductions have not been taken intoaccggnt. gnder this assunption we estimate a 32 EFPY fluence =
9.1x10}g /cm.n/gm, however, the corresponding value in Table 4-4 is 15.45x n
Please state the assumptions and the projected low leakage loadings.
3.
In table 3-1 (BAW-1895) it is indicated that cycle 8 will be a very low leakage cycle. State the expected flux reduction for cycle 8 and also for cycles 7 and 6 and for cycles 1-5.
State the corresponding EFPYs to the end of the operating license.
