SUBJECT:
RIVER BEND STATION, UNIT 1 - PETITION OF THE UNION OF CONCERNED SCIENTISTS (UCS) PURSUANT TO 10 CFR 2.206; NOTICE OF INFORMAL PUBLIC HEARING (TAC NO. MA3669)
Dear Mr. Edington:
By letter dated December 1,1998, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) requested that Entergy Operations, Inc. (EOl), provide a written response to the issues raised in a petition filed by the Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS) under 10 CFR 2.206 on September 25,1998. The letter requested that this information be provided within 30 days from the date of receipt. The response had been expected on or about the end of January 1999. In recent conversations between NRR and representatives from the Perry Nuclear Power Plant (PNPP), the PNPP licensee requested an additional 2 to 3 weeks to complete its response, citing the need for more time to address the specific issues raised in the UCS Petition. As a result, the NRC is i
granting the PNPP licensee and EOl an additional 11 calender days to complete its written I
response, and is extending the due date to February 11,1999.
It is important that the NRC receive your response in a timely manner in order to ensure that all participants in the informal public hearing process are better prepared to focus on the fuel cladding integrity issues raised in the River Bend Station and Perry Nuclear Power Plant Petitions. If there are any questions regarding your written response, please contact Mr. Robert Fretz at (301) 415-1324.
Sincerely.
