INSPECTION REPORT 50-455/85-047, 50-456/85-060, 50-457/85-056,
DESIGN VCRIFICATION ACTIVITIES FOR BYRON 2 AND BRAIDWOOD 1 & 2.
This letter conveys the results of the implementation inspection of the design
verification activities on Byron 2 and Braidwood 1&2. The inspection was con-
ducted by NRC's Office of Inspection and Enforcement (I&E) from November 18
through November 22, 1985 at the offices of Sargent & Lundy Engineers (S&L) in
Chicago, Illinois. The NRC team was composed of personnel from I&E and con-
sultants.
The specific object of this inspection was to ensure that applicable corrective
actions from the Byron 1 Integrated Design Inspection (IDI) and the Independent
Design Reviews (IDRs) of Byron 1 and Clinton 1 are being correctly implemented
on Byron 2 and Braidwood 1&2.
The NRC team concludes that these corrective actions are being implemented cor-
rectly on Byron 2 and Braidwood 182. However, the implementation of certain
items, although proceeding satisfactorily, is not yet completed. The NRC Region
III office will follow up and close out the open items identified in the enclosed
report.
