SUBJECT:

PETITIONS SUBMITTED IN ACCORDANCE WITH 10 CFR 2.206 REGARDING THE OPERATION OF THE RIVER BEND STATION AND PERRY NUCLEAR POWER PLANT

Dear Mr. Lochbaum:

In our letter to you dated January 14,1999, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) informed you that the licensees for the River Bend Station (RBS) and Perry Nuclear Power Plant (PNPP), Entergy Operations, Inc. and FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Company respectively, were to submit a written response to the issues raised in your 10 CFR 2.206 Petition on or about January 31,1999. The purpose of this letter is to inform you that the NRC is extending the deadline for this information to February 11,1999.

in recent conversations with NRC staff, the PNPP licensee requested an additional 2 to 3 weeks to prepare the written responses, citing the need for more time to address the issues raise in the November 9,1998, UCS Petition. As a result, the NRC has granted an additional 11 calender days to the PNPP and RBS licensees to submit their written responses to your Petition.

If you have any questions regarding the September 25, and November 9,1998 Petitions, i

please contact Mr. Robert Fretz at (301) 415-1324.

Sincerely, ORIGINAL SIGNED BY Robert J. Fretz, Project Manager Project Directorate IV-1 f
