. A model formed by plates and beams was analyzed using the PC version of SASSI and the EQE QA verified version of program CLASSI [2].The structural model is shown in Figure 2-1.
The soil corresponded to an uniform half space with shear wave velocity of 500 fps.
For comparison purposes, in-structure acceleration response spectra at various elevadons and plate stress time histories were calculated using both programs and then platted together.
~ Print-outs of the input and output files are not included in this calculation; however, all the files are included in a CD in Appendix B.

It was decided that this would be a more meaningful comparison than the comparison of results generated by SASSI runnmg in two different type of computers.
Figure 3-1 shows the location where the stresses were calculated (moments and forces for beams, moments per unit length and in-plane stresses for plates), beam 2 and plate 160.
Figures 3-2,3-3, and 3-4 show the comparison of the in-structure acceleration response spectra at the foundation level, at the top of the box, and at the top of the beam, respectively. It should be noted the good agreement between the two sets of results. Since the two program use different theoretical and numerical approaches, exact coincidence should not be expected.
Figures 3-5,3-6, and 3-7 show the time histories of the plate in-plane stresses. Figures 3-8 and 3-9 show the time histories of the plate bending moments (per unit length). CLASSI and SASSI/PC give very similar results for the whole duration of the time histories.
Figures 3-10,3-11,3-12 show the forces, axial and shear, in a beam element. Figures 3-13 and 3-14 show the bending moments in that beam elements. Again,it can be concluded that CLASSI and SASSI/PC give very similar results for the whole duration of the time histories.
Thus, it is concluded that SASSI/PC gives similar results than the QA verified computer code CLASSI for soil-structure interaction analysis.
