a) Attachment B to Reference 1: Virginia Power calculation CE-1325 b) Attachment C to Reference 1: Geotechnical data from NAPS UFSAR; Boring profiles across Pads 1,2, and 3; Boring logs for borings F2, F7, F10, F5, F8, Fil, F4, F6, F9.
From these documents the following data was extracted:
Poisson's ratio = 0.33 '
Unit weight = 0.110 kcf '
Unit mass = 0.0034 k sec2/ft4 - ;
She.ar moduluu = 2,851 ksf /
Shear wave velocity = 916 fpa '
SPT blow count Water table c'evation: taken as 290' Figures 21,2-2, and 2-3 show the actual soit profiles and SPT blow count under Pads 1,2 and 3, respectively. Figures 24,2-5, and 2-6 show the averaged layers of soil (S17T blow count lower than 100), hard soil (SFT blow count higher than 100), and rock.
The thickness of th. two solllayers and the elevation of the rock were calculated as follows:

To estimate the relative value of the shear wave velocity between the soil and the harder soil, formulas, relating the SI'T blow count with shear wave velocity, were used. l
- The following formulas were used: ,
- 1) Vs = 15 Nw mps [2]
- 2) Vs = 330 No fps [3]

- 3) Vs = 98(Nw)w Zu mps [2] (C1=69, Fl=1.3, F2=1.09) where N = measured blow count .
Nw blow count with 60% efficiency = Nx 45/60 = 0.75N [Attaclunent B of Reference 1]

The three formulas give similar results for the soil. Formula no.1 give unrealistic higher values for the harder soll with N>100. At the end, formula no. 2 was used. The shear wave velocity of the soil between elevations 310' and 270' were calculated with the values of N lower than 100. The shear wave veloc'ty of the soil between 265' and 255' was calculated with -
the average of all N values larger than 100. The shear wave velocity of the soil between 270' and 265' was calculated as the average of the two adjacent soillayers.
The shear wave velocities calculated with formula no. 2 are shown in Table 2-1. For layers above elevation 270' the values for N higher than 100 were not considered. Table 2-2 shows the average values for Vs at each elevation for N lower than 100.
The weighted average of the Vs above 270' is Vs =
(8* 791.86+ 8*763.40+ 9*764.71+ 8* 759.63 + 9*777.09+ 7*831.73 + 6* 822.99 + 5*825 ,

Since the UFSAR gives Vs = 915 fps a factor of r = 915/794.72 = 1.15 will be applied to the estimated values. Thus, the scaled values for soil layers above elevation 270' are:

The Vs for the harder soil between elevations 255' and 265' will be calculated as the average of all values calculated for N>100 closer to the bedrock. Thus:

The final best estimate-low strain soil velocity profiles are given in Table 2-3 and shown in Figures 2 7 and 2-8.
The P wave velocity for the layers above the water taide were calculated as:
Vp = Vs [ 2(1-v)/(1-2v)]1/2 where v is the Poisson's ratio.

The first horizontal component was used as the input motion for the SH AKE analysis. The generic degradation curves (shear modulus and damping vs shear strain) for sands given in Reference 5 were used to estimate the reduction in shear modulus and the soil damping. The final values are given in Table 4-1 and shown in Figures 4-1,4-2, and 4-3 Note that the P-wave velocity below the water table was not modified since it corresponds to the velocity in water. This profile will be used for the soil-structure analysis of the ISFSI pad.
