SURVEY OF GENERAL LICENSEES BY THE PENNSYLVANIA DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION Please find attached a note that I received from Mr. Chris Ryder, Office of Nuclear Regulatory Research. The note forwards a copy of a trip report of visits to generaf licensee facilities in Pennsylvania. Chris was accompanying Mr. James Yusko, Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), on visits to the facilities. The trip report indicates that persons at many of the facilities visited could not account for their nuclear gauges. I am forwarding this report to you so the Region can take appropriate action.
Chris is nerforming a risk assessment of both general and specific licensees that possessing industrial gauges containing cesium-137 and cobalt-60. As part of his assessment, he has accompanied on inspections of Agreement State general and specific licensees and has accompanied Region I on inspections of specific licensees. Accompaniments on inspections has provided important information for Chris' assessment.
