SUBJECT:
DESIGN CONTROL PROGRAM FOR SEQUOYAH UNITS 1 AND 2 One of the subjects discussed during the June 26, 1986, Senior Management Team (SMT) meeting was the recent inspection perfomed by the Office of Inspection and Enforcement (IE) in the area of design control.
As a result of this inspection, IE found that the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) had developed interim criteria in the area of piping design and pipe support designs. These interim criteria are to be used to support restart of the Sequoyah units.
In addition, TVA also developed new requirements in the area of cable tray supports and concrete anchors which would be used to support restart.
In order to determine the acceptability of these criteria, the SMT decided that the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation should conduct an evaluation.
Therefore, the purpose of this memorandum is to request that the appropriate Engineering Branch (EB) evaluate the enclosed design documents and report its findings to Project Directorate #4.
Although this information has not been formally submitted, the SMT believed that work should start.
Once EB has done an initial review, it may be beneficial to meet with TVA to gain a better understanding of the issue.
