NRC INSPECTION REPORT NO. 50-413/98-15 AND 50-414/98-15
Dear Mr. Peterson:
This refers to a special two week inspection conducted by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission
(NRC) between November 2 and November 20,1998, to review NRC licensed activities at your
Catawba nuclear station. The purpose of the inspection was to review the adequacy of your
corrective action program and its implementation.

This inspection concluded that the overall corrective action program and associaWd processes
l
at your facility were adequate. The Problem investigation Process (PIP) incorporated well
,
l
structured tools for documenting the identification of problems, non-conforming conditions, and
!
other issues for resolution. Prioritization and screening of identified problems was being
conservatively performed with adequate consideration for safety significance. Overall
effectiveness of corrective actions was determined to have been good based on the sample
~
review performed; however, several examples of inadequate corrective actions were identified
i
as addressed in the report.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790(a) of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter and
its enclosure will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room (PDR).
