SUBJECT:

AMPACITY DERATING ISSUES FOR OYSTER CREEK DUCLEAR GENERATING STATION (OCNGS)

Dear Mr. Roche:

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff has completed its review of your November 25, 1996, response to our request for additional information dated August 26, 1996, regarding subject issues as they relate to Generic Letter 92-08, "Thermo-lag 330-1 Fire Barefers."

The results of our review are documented in the enclosed Safety Evaluation (Enclosure 1) and Sandia National Laboratories Technical Letter Report, "A Technical Evaluation of the Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Station Analysis  ;

of Cable Ampacity Limits," dated April 10, 1997, (Enclosure 2).

On the basis of the attached reviews, the NRC staff concludes that the ampacity derating analysis results are acceptable and there are no significant safety hazards associated with the application of the licensee's ampacity derating methodology for OCNGS.

Sincerely, Original signed by ,
