SUBJECT:
REQUEST BY CAROLINA POWER & LIGHT COMPANY TO IIOLD EXEMPTION REQUEST IN ABEYANCE On May 15, 1986, the staff transmitted to the Commission a request by Carolina Power and Light Company for an exemption from the requirement of Section IV.F.1 of Appendix E to 10 C.F.R. Part 50, to perform a full-participation emergency exercise "within one year before the issuance of the first operating license for full power and prior to operation above 5% of rated power..."
The staff's transmittal also contained a request for a hearing on CP&L's exemption request filed by Mr. Wells Eddleman.
By letter dated June 10,1986 (a copy of which is attached), CP&L advised the staff that it is now in the process of consulting with involved off-site response organizations on the scheduling of exercises for the Shearon liarris facility.
The letter further requested that until that process is completed, "the NRC staff hold in abeyance active review of the exemption request and the request for a hearing on the exemption request until CP&L provides additional written information to the staff".
In that CP &L's exemption request is now pending before the Commission,
we are transmitting the above letter of June 10, 1986 to the Commission for its consideration.
