Dear Ms. Jackson:

Thank you for holding a public meeting in Wiscasset on October 7,1997, to explain how the decommissioning process for Maine Yankee will be handled by the NRC. A representative from my staff was present and reported that the NRC's information was helpful to the public, but that some concerns were also raised that you ha ve taken under consideration. It would be helpful to me in responding to constituents to have a copy of how you plan to respond to the concems not answered at the meeting.

I am particularly concemed that the Post-Shutdown Decommissioning Activities e Report (PSDAR) may not rcquire a hearing for public input once the PSDAR is submitte by Maine Yankee. In the interest of the public's tmst in the proper handling of the decommissioning process, I urge you to continue with your open forums in the Wiscusset arca as shutdown procedures continue.

Thank you for your consideration of continuing public meetings as we all work tor mrds n safe and secure decommissioning of the plant. I look forward to hearing of your future plans to safeguard the oversight of the decommissioning of the Maine Yankee facility.
