MEETING

SUMMARY

- CATAWBA - TO DISCUSS CORRECTIVE ACTIONS TO RESOLVE ELECTRICAL CIRCUITRY OPTICAL ISOLATORS FAILURES

Dear Mr. Peterson:

This refers to the meeting conducted at your request at the NRC Region II Office on October 22, 1997, at 10:00 a.m..

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss your corrective actions to resolve the failures of the electrical circuitry optical isolators which resulted in reactor trips.

A list of attendees and a copy of your presentation handout are enclosed.

It is our opinion that this meeting was beneficial in that it provided the NRC staff with a good overview of your planned corrective actions to resolve the optical isolator failures.

1 In accordance with Section 2.790 of the NRC's " Rule of Practice." Part 2.

Title 10 Code of Federal Regulations, a co)y of this letter and its enclosures will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.

Should you have any questions concerning this meeting, please contact H. Christensen at (404) 562-4605.

Sincerely.
