QUAD CITIES NUCLEAR POWER STATION DESIGN INSPECTION
Dear Mr. Kingsley:
During the time period of February 16 through March 27,1998, we have scheduled an on site design inspection of your Quad Cities Nuclear Power Station. Your staff has indicated that there are no major conflicts with onsite activities during this period. The two mechanical systems selected are the residual heat removal (RHR) and core spray (CS) including the automatic depressurization system (ADS). In addition, support and interface systems such as the RHR service water and the electrical distribution systems will be reviewed. We will contact your staff to request material needed to support the on site and off site reviews. The team leader and two (L.im members of the inspection team are scheduled to visit the site bet' 1en January 26 and 28,1998, to ensure that all requested documentation has been provided to facilitate the in-office review and on site inspection.
Recent NRC inspections at nuclear power reactor facilities have identified numerous findings where the actual plant cor. figuration or operations were inconsistent with the design basis, licensing basis, or the UFSAR. Thus, the purpose of this inspection is to evaluate the capability of the systems to perform safety functions required by their design and licensing bases and to verify consistency of the as built configuration with the final safety analysis report. Inspection Procedure (IP) 93801, "Sefety System Functional Inspection" will be used to perform the design inspection.
