Meeting with NRC Region I Staff This will confirm the scheduled meeting between Public Service Electric and Gas Company and the NRC Region I staff on June 5, 1986 at 1:30 p.m. in the Regional offices, King of Prussia, Pennsylvania. Arrangements for the meeting were discussed in a telephone conversation between R. Salvesen and L. Norrholm of my staff on May 22, 1986.

The purpose of the meeting is to discuss operating experience and lessons j learned since receipt of the low power license for Hope Creek. Specific areas of interest are listed in the attachment to this letter.

We look forward to a productive exchange of information which will improve our perspective in evaluating readiness for a full power license.

t AGENDA FOR MEETING WITH PSE&G

1. Discuss extent to which operational problems at sister plants were reviewed, and the benefits, if any, of such reviews (e.g. design modifications, procedure improvements, etc.).

2. Discuss measures used to preclude unacceptable work practices in the balance of plant which could affect safe operation of the facility.

Include any lessons learned from Salem operational history (e.g. recent event involving use of nylon line to secure limit switch in $GFP valve.).

3. Discuss results of any analysis performed to assess reasons for operational events (related causes, etc.). Of particular concern are the events attributed to design features.

4. Discuss the status of determining the cause(s) for spurious ECCS actuations, and corrective actions identified.

5. Discuss management personnel changes in the station organization (rationale, qualifications,etc.).
