Dear Mr. Bowling:

'By letter dated May 8, 1997, Northeast Nuclear Energy Comaany (NNECO) applied for an amendment to the Millstone Nuclear Power Station. 'Jnit No. 2, facility Operating License No. DPR-65. The proposed c.hanges would have modified the accuracy requirements of the meteorological instrumentation and su) porting Bases. Subsequently, by letter dated November 25. 1997, NNECO wit 1 drew the amendment request based on its de',ermination that the subject instrumentation accuracies can be significantly improved by implementing modifications. It is further indicated that the modifications will result in improving the overall system accuracy such that the existing Technical 5)ecifications for the Millstone Nuclear Power Station, Unit No. 2, will 3e complied with.

The modifications are expected to include (1) replacement of the existing with calibrated RTDs and matched resistance tre.nsmitters; temperature (2) modification detectors of the (RTDs)lant p computer to display time averaged valaes for delta - T, and; (3) monitoring the environmental conditions of the meteorological tower building to assure'that they are within the required limits. We request that we be informed of any changes to the proposed modifications described above including supporting justification.
