Nuclear Regulatory Commission ATTN: Document control Desk Washington,DC 20555 Joseph M. Farley Nuclear Plant Storace Pool Ventilation iFuel Movement) Technical Snecification Amendment ,

Ladies and Gentlemen:

By letter dated June 13,1997, Southern Nuclear submitted an amendment request to revise the technical specifications and associated bases associated with storage pool ventilation (fuel movement). The amendment consisted of two parts:

1. A note added in the technical specificat;ons to specifically indicate the normal or emergency power supply may be inoperable in Modes 5 or 6 provided that the requirements of Technical Specification 3.8.1.2 are satisfied; and
2. An extension of the Technical Specification 3.9.13 completion time allowed for returning one out of service penetration room filtration system from 48 hours5.555556e-4 days
0.0133 hours
7.936508e-5 weeks
1.8264e-5 months
to 7 days.

Based on recent discussion the NRC Staff has mformed SNC that it can not review the portion of the amendment request associated with time allowed for setuming a out-of service penetration room filtration i,ystem item 2 above, in the near future. Consequently, in order to provide flexibility and significant cost savings for the upcoming refueling outage on Farley Unit 2, Southern Nuclear is re-submitting this revised amendment forjust the power supply portion of the original submittal. The conclusions of the Basis for Change Request and the 10 CFR 50.92 Evaluation associated with the power supply portion of the amendment request remain valid, and as such, no new significant hazards evaluation is required. \
