I am responding to your letters of Augus 9,1997, to Chairman Jackson and July 31,1997, to James Kennedy of th U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, requesting that Mr. Kennedy attend the Low-Lev Radioactive Waste (LLW) Summit to be held in Lincoln, NE, on August 28,1997. We appreciate your invitation to speak at this important conference. We regret that we ar unable to attend, however, because of limited staff resources in our LLW program.
We support the goals of the);ow-Level Radioactive Waste Policy Amendments Act of 1985, and the States' responsibili f to develop new disposal capacity. We wish you success in the upcoming summit and tru that you will obtain information you need for sound decisionmaking.
