SUBJECT:
LASALLE INSPECTION REPORT 50-373/98022(DRP); 50-374/98022(DRP)
Dear Mr. Kingsley:
.
This refers to the inspection conducted October 10 through November 20,1998, at the
LaSalle Nuclear Power Station. The purpose of the inspection was to determine whether
activities authorized by the license were conducted safely and in accordance with NRC
requirements. At the conclusion of the inspection, the findings were discussed with those
members of your staff identified in the enclosed report. No violations of NRC requirements
were identified during the course of this inspection.
Overall, performance of plant personnel was acceptable. Operators performed well, effectively
controlled plant activities, and identified several instances in which maintenance activities could
not be performed as planned. For example, the operators recognized problems with incorrect
equipment designated to be removed from service This performance was indicative of
operators who were knowledgeable of plant conditions and equipment status, practiced
effective panel monitoring, and displayed appropriate attention to detail.
During the inspection, we also noted your recognition of the need to further improve the work
control and scheduling process and actions you have taken to address this concern. We
encourage you to continue this type of introspective look and resulting initiatives aimed at
ensuring the effective and timely completion of maintenance activities and ultimately continued
material condition improvement at LaSalle County Station.
