Docket 70-1201, SNM-1168 This notice serves to inform you of the intention of Framatome Cogema Fuels to initiate the operation of a chemistry laboratory at the Lynchburg Manufacturing Facility under the provisions of SNM-1168, Chapter 1, Section 1.5.3. A pre-operational evaluation will be performed prior to utilization of the laboratory. As this addition will only result in a change to Part 2 of the license, an amendment is not required.
The laboratory will be located in a semi-portable configuration between the LMF main plant and the SERF 3 structure. The wall, ceiling and floor will be seam welded metal. The laboratory is equipped with a separate and distinct 1IEPA filtered, air handling system. This system will be tested, maintained and operated in accord with Chapter 12, Section 12.7 of the aforementioned license.
The laboratory will be equipped to perform radiochemical analyses. All liquid waste generated in the laboratory (aliquots, rinse water, etc.) will be captured for evaporation through pre-existing, monitored pathways. Personnel and environmental radiological controls will be in accord with SNM-1168 and FCF procedures. Given the volume and origin of the samples, along with the nature of the analyses to be performed, the impact to total effluent activity should be negligible.
When not in use for radiological samples, the laboratory shall be returned to a non-radiologically i
controlled area.
