Dear Mr. Arthur:

The nRC sthft has completed the acceptance reviews of the draft Environmental Assessment (oEA) and the preliminary Design for the Spook, Wyoming Uranium Mill Tailings Remedia', Action Project. Based on these reviews, the staft concluded that the Spook DEA and preliminary Design documents contain sufficient information to begin our evaluation and are thereby acceptable.

However, the staff has identified several analyses and references in the area A

of ground-water hydrology which should be supp1M in order to complete the U

full technical review. On May 2, 1988, Ms. Debo 9 nn was informed by tel'ephon'e of the resultPof the acceptance reviews and the need for additional information.

It is our understanding, based on this conversation that the information will be sent to the NRC staff within the next few days. The additional information includes:
