NOV C 61978 MEMORANDUM FOR: Roger S. Boyd, Director, Division of Project Management Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation i FROM: Emanuel Licitra, Project Manager, Light Water Reactors j Branch No. 3, Division of Project Management

SUBJECT:

YELLOW TICKET NRR-2627 Action was completed on the subject request by telephone call from Robert Capra to Mr. Eugene Cantor of the Securities and Exchange Commission on November 6, 1978.

Mr. Cantor was advised that our review of the Houston Lighting and Power Company Registration Statement sections related to NRR indicated one minor I inaccuracy and.that we did not identify any omissions. l The minor inaccuracy noted appears on page number 15 of the report. Houston Lighting and Power Company states that "The South Texas and Allens Creek plants have been designed with on-site storage facilities having the capacity to store approximately ten years of spent fuel discharged from each unit." The .

present design of the spent fuel storage facilities for these plants allows approximately five years of storage for the South Texas Plant and eight years for Allens Creek. However, with some modification (i.e. use of high density racks) which the utility plans on proposing, these spent fuel storage facilities can have the capacity to store approximately ten years of spent fuel discharged from each unit.
