PERRY INSPECTION REPORT 50-440/98013(DRP)

Dear Mr. Myers:

On July 22,1998, the NRC completed a routine safety inspection at your Perry Nuclear Power
Plant. The enclosed report presents the results of that inspection.
.
During this inspection period, your conduct bf activities at the Perry facility was characterized
by conservative plant operations with an appropriate focus on safety. In panicular, the
'
response by your staff to the July 1,1998, reactor scram and subsequent plant restart was
well controlled and focused on safety, in addition, after performing a risk assessment of an
online electrical Division I outage, plant management rescheduled some of the planned
activities to lower the risk associated with the work. Although performance was generally very
good throughout the inspection period, the inspectors identified several instances of
inattention-to-detail by workers which are noted in the report.
No violations of NRC requirements were identified during the course of this inspection.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter and its
enclosures will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.
