I. Monthly Report for Byron Unit 1 for the month of Aoril 1988 A. Summary of Operating Experience for Unit 1 The unit Degan this reporting period in Mode 1 at 98% power. On 4/2/88, a load decrease, for a two week outage, to repair a tube leak in the ID Steam Generator, was started. The turbine was tripped at 0852 on 4/3/88.

Mode 5 (Cold Shutdown) was entered at 0501 on 4/4/88. The outage was completed and the unit synchronized to the grid at 1528 on 4/15/88. By 1300 on 4/18/88 the unit was returned to 98% power. At 2120 on 4/18/88 a reactor trip occurred due to Hi flux rate. The reactor remained in Mode 3 (Hot Standby) until 1149 on 4/21/88 when the reactor was taken critical.

The unit was synchronized to the grid at 1435 the same day. Power was increased to 49% on 4/22/88. The unit operated at power levels of up to 98% for the rett of the reporting period.

II. Monthly Report for Byron Unit 2 for the month of April 1988 A. Summary of Operatina Experience for Unit 2 The unit began this reporting period in Mode 1 at 94% power. The unit operated at power levels of up to 94% until 4/8/88 when power was reduced to investigate the erratic operation ol a feedwater pump governor valve. Power remained at approximately 54% until 4/10/88 '

when the unit was returned to 94% power. The unit operated at power levels of up to 94% for the rest of the reporting period.
