In response to your June 10, 1988, letter (SGTB:CEW 71 9086),
enclosed are eight (8) copies of the following Westinghouse flittman Nuclear documents for your review:

"Sa fety Analysis Report for the llN 190 1 Radwaste Shipping Cask", liittman Document No. STD-R 02 006, Rev. 4 These documents should provide you with the information you have requested in connection with your review of our application dated February 26, 1988, requesting renewal of Certificate of Compliance No. 9086.
Please note that liittman Nuclear has requested in our renewal application that the model number of these casks be changed from IIN 100 Serics I to ll N-190- 1 on the Certificate of Compliance.
This model number has been chosen to better reflect the volumetric capacity of the cask.

4 ATTACilMENT A WESTINGilOUSE lilTTMAN NUCLEAR MODEL NO. IIN 100 SERIES 1 CERTIFICATE OF COMPLIANCE NO. 9086 "RESPONSES TO NRC LETTER DATED JUNE 10, 1988" OUESTION #1 The application is incomplete in that there is no discussion regarding the deletion of information pertaining to the restric-tion on the use of Unit No. 5 because of the reduced strength of the tie down lug material.
RESPONSE
IIN-100 Series 1 Cask Unit No. 5 is no longer being operated as a certified cask by Westinghouse liittman Nuclear.
This cask has been modified and purchased by a utility for use as an unli-censed, not to be transported process shield.
Accordingly, the information pertaining to the restriction on the use of Unit No.
5 has been deleted from the application since it is the intention to never use this unit again as a certified package.
OUESTION #2 Section 7.0, Operating Procedures, is incomplete in that the application contains only two pages,7 7 and 7 8.
RESPONSE
An incomplete copy of the SAR was apparently previously trans-mitted to the NRC.
A complete copy of the incomplete section (i.e.,
Section 7.0) is included with the enclosed copy of Westinghouse liittman Document STD R 02 006, Rev. 4.
No revisions have been made to this section.
We apologize for any inconve-nience this may have caused you.
OUESTION #3 The maintenance instructions, Section 8.2, pertaining to gaskets should be clarified.
It is not clear that the instructions given are applicable to the acal design being used.
RESPONSE
Section 8.2 of Westinghouse liittman Nuclear Document STD R 02 006 has been revised to clarify the maintenance instructions pertain-ing to the gaskets.
