ACCEPTANCE REVIEW OF RETRAN-3D (TAC NO. MA2390) j

Dear Mr. Swindlehurst:

The staff has reviewed the RETRAN-3D thermal-hydraulic transient analysis code, submitted by your letter dated July 8,1998, on behalf of the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI), to determine the acceptability of the code documentation for NRC review. The staff concludes that l

the scope and detail of the code documentation pertaining to the thermal-hydraulic modeling, l

reactor kinetiics modeling, code numerics, and code assessment are sufficient for the staff to initiate its technical review.

If you have any questions regarding this matter, please call the EPRI project manager, J. Wilson, at (301) 415-1108.
