Dear Mr. Caldwell:

Enclosed is a copy of the final report for the March I 8,1998 Plume Exposure Pathway Exercise for the offsite radiological emergency response plan, site-specific to the LaSalle Nuclear Generating Station. The State ofIllinois and LaSalle County participated in this exercice.

Commonwealth Edison, the utility operator, also participated in this exercise. Grundy County operated as a control cell for this exercise. Copies of this Report were transmitted to the NRC National Office, the FEMA National Office, the State ofIllinois and LaSalle County.

No Deficiencies were identified during this exercise. There were no Areas Requiring Corrective Action (ARCAs) for the State ofIllinois. There was one Area Requiring Corrective Action for LaSalle County.

l Based on the results of the March 18,1998 exercise, the offsite radiological emergency response l

plans and preparedness for the State ofIllinois, LaSalle and Grundy Counties, site-specific to the LaSalle Nuclear Generating Station can be implemented. These plans are adequate to provide reasonable assurance that appropriate measures can be taken offsite to protect the health and safety of the public in the event of a radiological emergency at the site.

i Therefore, Title 44 CFR, Part 350, approval of the offsite radiological emergency response plans and preparedness for the State ofIllinois, site-specific to the LaSalle Nuclear Generating Station, granted on June 4,1982 will remain in effect.

If your staff have any questions, please contact Carolyn L. Sturghill at (312) 408-5379.
