SUBJECT: NRC INSPECTION REPORT 50-313/98-08; 50-368/98-08 AND NOTICE OF
VIOLATION
Dear Mr. Hutchinson:
From September 13 through Cdober 24,1998, a routine inspection was conducted at your
Arkansas Nuci'sar One, Units 1 and 2, reactor facility. The enclosed report presents the scope
.
and results oi that inspection.
During the 6-week period covered by this inspection, your conduct of activities at the Arkansas
Nuclear One facility was generally characterized by safety-conscious operations, sound
engineering and maintenance practices, and appropriate radiological controls. One violation of
NRC requirements was identified. The violation resulted from failure to incorporate appropriate
requirements and acceptance limits as specified by applicable design documents to
demonstrate that Diesel Engine Fire Pump P-6B would perform satisfactorily while in service.
The NRC has concluded that information regarding the reason for the violation, including the
corrective actions taken and planned to correct the violation and prevent recurrence, is already
adequately addressed on the docket in the enclosed inspection report. Therefore, you are not
required to respond to this letter unless the description therein does not accurately reflect your
corrective actions or your position. In that case, or if you choose to provide additional
information, you should follow the instructions specified in the enciosed Notice.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter, its
enclosures, and your response will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room (PDR).
