McGuire Nuclear Station Docket No. 50-369 and 50-370 Regulatory Guide 1.97 Change To Commitment Gentlemen By letters dated March 29, 1984, August 30, 1985, and November 24, 1986 Duke submitted actions (and schedules) that would be taken on the part of Duke Power Company in response to Regulatory Guide 1.97.
One action was to replace trans-mitters on the Main Steam syster that are involved with Main Steam flow control.
The existing traamitters for McGuire Unit 1 are Veritrak Model 76DP1 which are not environmentally Jeted for the expected radiation or temperature environment at the installed locations, McGuire Unit 2 currently uses Barton Model 764 for this application which are environmentally rated for expected radiation or temperature environment at the installed locations.
In the Regulatory Guide 1.97 Revision 2 response dated March 29, 1984, Duke stated that the Veritrak transmitters would be replaced with Barton transmitters.
Sub-sequently, Duke has discovered that the Barton Model 764 transmitters are produc~
ing high noise levels on McGuire Unit 2.
A Design Study was performed and a de-termination was made to replace the Unit i Veritrak transmitters and the Unit 2 Barton transmitters with Rosemount Model 11510P transmitters, and a signal isola-tor between the transmitters and the protection cabinets.
The present commitment date for replacing the non-rated transmitters on Unit 1 and Unit 2 is the 1988 Unit 1 and Unit 2 refueling outages.
However, due to the changes in the modifications to accomplish the desired results Duke vill complete the modifications as follows:
o Unit 1 - Nuclear Station Modification (NSM) MG-12044 will be completed by the end of the 1989 Unit 1 Refueling Outage.
o Unit 2 - NSM MG-22044 will be completed by the end of the 1989 Unit 2 Refuel-ing Outage, fCO$
