Gentlemen:
This transmits the October 6 to November 19, 1988, routine inspection findings
of Mr. C. Holden and Mr. R. Freudenberger at the Mainc Yankee Atomic Power
Plant, Wiscasset, Maine. Those findings were based on observations of activ-
ities, interviews, and document reviews, and have been discussed with
Dr. Boulette of your staff.
Within the scope of this inspection, no violations were observed. Overall,
control of outage activities appears good. Planning and outage coordination
activities are working well and the reduction in control room activities has
benefited the operating crew. Major surveillance tests such as containment

integrated leak rate testing and oddy current inspection of number 1 steam
'
generator had good oversight,
i We are concerned, however, about a number of wiring discrepancies identified by
the plant during this outage. In addition to the individual resolution of
these discrepancies, we are interested in understanding the root cause/causes

of these problems.
