SUBJECT: NRC INSPECTION REPORT 50-295/99002(DNMS); 50-304/99002(DNMS)

Dear Mr. Kingsley:

On June 8,1999, the NRC completed an inspection at your Zion 1 and 2 reactor facilities which

examined decommissioning activities. The enclosed report presents the results of that 3

inspection. 1

During thed 'nspection period, activities in the areas of facility manager.; ant and control,

decommissk ning support, spent fuel safety, and radiologica'saiety were ewnined.

Overall per ormance in these areas was very good. Routine activities were being conducted

aM verifir d to ensure that the condition of the plant and imr artant safety systems were well

malnu!md. However, a weakness was noted in your self essessment/ corrective action

program in which a series of personnel errors were not collectively documented and addressed

in the Problem Identification Form system.

a

No violation or deviations were identified during this inspection.

in accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter and its

enclosure will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.

Sincerely,

/s/ J.E. House for
