Subject:

Catawba Nuclear Station Docket Nos. 50-413 and 50-414 RII/LJW Deviation 413,414/87-13-01

Dear Sir:

In our response to the subject Deviation, it was stated that we would submit a revised Writers Guide upon completing our review to ensure that it conformed to applicable industry guidelines including human factors and principles of presenting information. We anticipated submitting the revised Writers Guide as a revision to the Emergency Procedures Generation Package (PGP) by the end of January, 1988.

This document (the Writers Guide) is still in the process of revision in several areas. Procedure validation efforts on the simulator have indicated a necessity to expand and otherwise revise certain other portions of the Guidelines. When I

these changes are fully incorporated, the revised Writers Guide will be transmitted to your Staff. We expect this to occur no later than March 31, 1988.

Very truly yours,
