DOCUMENTS, UMTRAP, GREEN RIVER, UTAH, DECEMBER 1987.
At your request, we performed an acceptance review of the final design documents to determine what additional information is needed to conduct a complete review. DOE's response to previous NRC questions on the final design were considered in this review effort. The attachment to this memo presents our findings.

Memo of December 15, 1987, from M. Tokar to M.Fliegel, transmitting Geotechnical engineering review comments on the Final Design Documents for UMTRAP, Green River Utah.
REVIEW COMMENTS In addition to the comments presented in the referenced memo, the following concern should be transmitted to the DOE.
- 1. TYP. RIPRAP TOE PROTECTION DETAIL in Drawing No. GRN-PS-10-0517, REY. B.
There is no filter layer between the Type B Riprap material and the overlying backfill material. There is a potential for the backfill material to migrate in to the voids of the riprap with time, resulting in clogging the voids of the riprap. This particle migration will also result in surficial subsidence of the backfill, which might require maintenance. The consequences of this i
potential particle migration and clogging of the riprap in the toe protection should be addressed by the 00E.
The following information is needed to perform a detailed review.
- 1. Radon Barrier Design- justification providing backup data for the '
long-term moisture content used in the design, and field and laboratory test data to validate the permeability parameter value used in the design.
