SUBJECT: NRC IN5PECTION REPORT 50-285/98-24 AND NOTICE OF VIOLATION
Dear Mr. Gambhir:
From November 2-6,1998, a radiation protection program inspection was conducted at your
Fort Calhoun Station reactor facility. The enclosed report presents the scope and results of that
. inspection.-
The inspection focused primarily on the operational aspects of the radiation protection program.
In general, the radiation protection program was effectively implemented. However, a violation
of NRC requirements was identified involving the failure to tag temporary lead shielding and

post airborne radioactivity areas. . The Violation is of concem, because it appeared to represent
a lack of attention to detail by radiation protection personnel to procedure adherence.
The violation is cited in the enclosed Notice of Violation (Notice) and the circumstances
surrounding the violation are described in detailin the enclosed report. The NRC has
concluded that information regarding the reason for the violation, the corrective actions taken
and planned to correct the violation and prevent recurrence are already adequately addressed
on the docket in the enclosed inspection report. Therefore, you are not required to respond to
this letter unless the description therein does not accurately reflect your corrective actions or

your position in that case, or if you choose to provide additional information, you should follow
the instructions specified in the enclosed Notice.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter, its
enclosure (s), and your response will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room (PDR).
