Dear Mr. Bird:
This letter confirms the September 30, 1987 conversation between Mr. Samuel Collins of my staff and you regarding overtime controls at ' the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station.
During that conversation, you indicated that you had received a letter alleging excessive overtime and that you were also aware of similar allegations in the press. Further, you agreed to evaluate the
. situation to determine whether overtime controls at the site are being effec-tively implemented for all personnel including: (1) whether instances of over-time in excess of NRC guidelines are being reviewed and approved as required; and, (2) whether the amount of overtime actually approved and the attendant circumstances is consistent with the intent of NRC guidance on controlling working hours. You indicated that you would provide a written report to NRC Region I.
We request this report be provided withir. 20 days of the date of this letter.
l The above described evaluation will be of assistance to NRC Region I in i
reviewing this matter.
If your understanding of this agreement differs from
-that described herein, please contact this office promptly.
