Dear Sir:

On December 7, 1987, Duke Power Company submitted a steam generator tube rupture analysis for Catawba Units 1 and 2 in accordance with License Conditions 16 and 10 of Facility Operating Licenses NPF-35 and -52, respectively. A proposed amendment to the Technical Specifications, which would add requirements for the steam generator PORV's, was submitted on December 4, 1987, in response to_the same license conditions. By letter dated December 25, l '1R 7. Duke advised the NRC that the proposed Technical Specification and the supporting analysis would be revised in order to justify a less restrictive action statement for the steam generator PORV's. While doing the reanalysis, questions arose relating to the North Anna tube rupture event that had to be considered. By letter dated May 16, 1988, we indicated the analysis and Technical Specification change would be submitted by June 21, 1988. As a result of further reviews necessary, the analysis and Technical Specification change will be submitted by August 15, 1988.
