Based on our review of your amendment request dated April 10, 1986 (as supplemented August 5,1986), and the discussions which took place at our March 10, 1988 meeting at NRC regarding the subject item, we have identified a need for additional information in order to complete our review. V ENCLOSURE REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION TRANSFFR OF RESERVE POWER TO EMERGENCY BUSES Please provide the following:

1)

A listing of successful fast automatic transfers made because of plant trips.

2)

A listing of the unsuccessful fast automatic transfers made because of plant trips.

3)

A listing of the successful slow manual transfers made.

4)

A listing of the unsuccessful slow mhaual transfers.

5)

A listing of emergency diesel generator inoperable states.

Each of the above should include dates and iten 5 should include the duration of each inoperable state.

6)

The probability of equipment failures caused by excess currents during transfers.

)

7)

An estimate of accelerated wear or aging of the equipnent subjected to higher than rated currents for the periods of time involved in each slow manual transfer.

8)

Demonstrate that excess torque on notor shafts will not occur after fast automatic transfers because of a 25 phase shift between the normal and reserve power supplies.

9)

Listing equipment carrying excess currents, their current ratings, and the worst case slow manual transfer currents.
