SUBJECT:

ALWR UTILITY REQUIREMENTS DOCUMENT - CHAPTER 4 REVIEW The staff has completed its review of Chapter 4 of EPRI's Advanced Light Water Reactor (ALWR) Utility Requirements Document.

Enclosed are two copies of our Draft Safety Evaluation Report (DSER) which documents the review.

Based on its review, the staff concluded that the utility requirements in Chapter 4 are in general agreement with NRC guidelines and regulatory requirements for reactor systems.

This finding is based, in part, on the commitments in your letters of January 25, 1988 and March 25, 1988 to make certain changes in the document.

If there are any questions relative to the DSER, please direct them to Paul H.
