Dear Mr. Farrar:
BGrimes ACRS (10)
Subject:
Relief Granted for Certain Portions of the La Salle County Station, Unit 1 Inservice Testing Program for Pumps and Valves In the staff's Safety Evaluation Report dated March 1981, and License Condition 2.C.(9) for the La Salle County Station, Unit 1, we stated that we had not com-pleted a detailed review of your pump and valve inservice testing (IST) program, and an interim relief was granted from certain pump and valve testing require-ments for that portion of the 120-month period until the staff completed its review of the program.
This review has now been completed and the enclosed Safety Evaluation Summary,, was prepared by the staff. This Safety Evaluation Summary is based on your submittals up to October 11, 1985, and the review and evaluation is based upon the technical assistance from our contractor, Idaho National Erigineering Laboratory (EG&G Idaho, Inc.).
The program included requests for relief from the testing requirements of Section XI, Rules and Inservice Inspection of Nuclear Power Plant Components of the ASME Coiler and Pressure Code. Relief has been granted for those testing requirements found to be impractical to perform which would not compromise the safety of the facility.
Relief has been denied in some cases. Relief has been granted for certain testing requirements with a condition as described in the Safety Evalua-tion Summary, Enclosure 1, and Safety Evaluation Report, Enclosure 2.
In such cases, relief is granted subject to the stated condition.
Accordingly, relief from certain requirements of Section XI of the ASME Code is hereby granted, as described in the enclosed Safety Evaluation Summary; and the IST program for pumps and valves for la Salle County Station, Unit 1 should be revised accordingly.
