k REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION REGARDING INSERVICE INSPECTION ALTERNATIVE EXAMINATION NUMBER NDE-035 FOR THE DUANE ARNOLD ENERGY CENTER DOCKET NO. 50-331 Request for Alternative NDE-R035 proposes the use of American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Bo~ler and Pressure Vessel Code (Code), Section XI, Code Case N-598,

' Alternative Requirements to Required Percentages of Examinations" for Class 1,2, and 3 components. The Cod a Case and Code both require the same minimum percentage of examinations be com;:leted each inspection period, but the Code Case allows a greater maximum percentage of examinations for the first and second periods. This allows more examinations to be performed early in the interval. However, the use of this Code Case will establish a new sequence of component examinations. To authorize this alternative, the licensee must commit to repeating the newly established sequence of component examinations g during successive inspection intervals. Confirm that the sequence of component examinations will be repeated for successive inspection intervals.
