SUBJECT:

SUMMARf 0F MCETING WITH SOUTH CAROLIDA ELECTRIC & GAS COMPANY General On October 18 1988, the NRC staff, consisting of representatives of the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation, Region !! staff, and the Suireer Resident Inspector met with the South Carolina Electric & Gas Company (SCE&G) to discuss -

the status of the licensing issues for the V. C. Sumer Nuclear Station. The meeting was held at the Summer Station in Jenkinsville, South Carolina. A list of those persons who attended the meeting is includet; an Enclosure 1.

Discussion j A handout was.provided at the meeting which presented the NRC's current assess. i ment of the status of various licensing actions. This handout is included as Enclosure 2. Discussion focused on those licensing actions required for the refueling outage which began on September 16, 1988. During the discussion, it was noted that a closeout letter was actually issued on TAC No. 68956 and not TAC No. 68834 as indicated in Enclosure 2. Likewise, the licensee responded to Boiletin 88 01, "Defects in Westinghouse Circuit Breakers," in a July 12, 1983  ;

letter to the Region II Admin'estrator and provided the results of their long 4 term inspection. A copy of that letter was not trar.smitted to the NRR Project Manager by the licensee. The Senior Resident Inspector at the Sumer Station  ;

closed this iter out in Inspection Report 50-395/88-14 (August 10,1988).

The next meeting is currently scheduled for November 29, 1988 at the Region 11 offices in Atlanta, Georgia.
