Gentlemen:

This refers to the inspection conducted by Region IV personnel during the

period August 29 through September 2,1988, of activities authorized by NRC

Operating License NPF-42 for the Wolf Creek Generating Station, and to the .

discussion of our findings with you and other members of your staff at the

,

conclusion of the inspection.

Areas examined during.the inspection included followup to previous inspection

'

findings, licensee event reports, 10 CFR Part 21 reports, and the safety system

outage modification inspection. Within these areas, the inspection consisted

of selective examination of. procedures and representative records, interviews

'

with personnel, and observations by the NRC inspectors. The inspection

findings are documented in the enclosed inspection report.

During this inspection, one item was identified that could not be closed due to

lack of generic corrective action. This item is identified in paragraph 2.1.8

of the enclosed report. Your actions, to date, have addressed only the

specific identified equipment. We request that you review the guidance

contained in paragraph 2.1.8 and take appropriate action on the go.neric aspects

of this event.
