REVIEW OF REPONSE TO GENERIC LETTER 97-05 FOR JOSEPH M. FARLEY NUCLEAR PLANT, UNITS 1 AND 2 (TAC NOS. MA0464 AND MA0465) l

Dear Mr. Morey:

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff has reviewtd the submittals by Southern Nuclear Operating Company, Inc. (SNC) dated March 6 and October 12,1998, regarding Generic Lotter (GL) 97-05," Steam Generator Tube Inspection Techniques." The focus of GL 97-05 was to verify that licensee steam generator tube inspection practices were consistent with existing regulator / requirements and plant licensing basis. SNC's responses to the GL included a description and technical basis for all inspection techniques used to size the depth of steam generator tube degradation at the Joseph M. Farley Nuclear Plant (FNP),

Units 1 and 2. The NRC staff's review of the responses did not identify any concerns with the steam generator tube inspection techniques employed at FNP that would indicate that SNC is not in compliance with the current licensing basis for this facility.
