SUBJECT:

NRC INTEGRATED INSPECTION REPORT 50-413/98-09 AND 50-414/98-09

Dear Mr. Peterson:

On September 26,1998, the NRC completed an inspection at your Catawba Nuclear Station.

The enclosed report presents the results of that inspection.

During the six-week period covered by this inspection, your conduct of activities at the Catawba

Nuclear Station was generally characterized by safety-conscious operations, as well as

adequate engineering, maintenance, and radiological controls.

Also, during the inspection period, the NRC received your response dated August 26,1998, to

Violations 50-413,414/98-07-01 and 50-413,414/98-07-05. We have evaluated your response

and found that it meets the requirements of 10 CFR 2.201. We will examine the implementation

of your corrective actions during future inspections.

In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter and its

enclosure will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.
