SUBJECT:
EVALUATION OF THE DIESEL GENERATOR CIRCUIT BREAKER MANUAL CLOSE CAPABILITY AT WOLF CREEK (TAC NO. 66807)
The NRC staff has completed its review of your submittals dated December 29, 1987 and April 18, 1988 which proposed a preliminary and final design for the modification of the diesel generator output breaker control circuitry at Wolf Creek Generating Station. The modification was proposed to allow the operator to reclose the diesel generator breaker from the control raom following a manual trip of the breaker.
The staff's review determined that the modification proposed in your preliminary design, to allow the operator to close the circuit breaker from the control room if it failed to close following a loss of offsite power and automatic start of the diesel generator, provided only minimal enhancement of the output breaker circuitry and was not warranted because of the extensive circuit modifications required.
The staff concludes that your final design is acceptable. A copy of the staff's related safety evaluation is enclosed.
