Dear Mr. Bliss:

By letters dated August 26 and September 2,1988, Comonwealth Edison Company submitted a pr0posal for NRC to review the performance of mixed-grease samples with mixtures of 12% of 33% of Sun EP50 mixed with Exxon Nebula EP0/EPl.

The NRC staff has completed its review of your submittal as to whether mixed grease with greater than 5% contaminant will affect the operability of Limitorque valve operatcrs in the Braidwood Station, Units 1 and 2. The NRC staff has concluded that there is insufficient infonnation to make a determination on the post accident operability of these Limitorque valve operators. Therefore, Braidwood Units 1 and 2 valves with greater than 5%

grease contaminant in operators may not have been able to perform their intended function following the environmental exposure to a Design Basis Accident. Our Safety Evaluation is enclosed.
